African Centre for Science and International Security (AFRICSIS), in partnership with University of Ghana’s School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS), University of Port Harcourt’s Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies (CNES), Ahmadu Bello University’s Centre for Energy Research & Training (CERT); and supported by the National Nuclear Security Administration’s International Nuclear Safeguards Engagement Program (INSEP) and the U.S. Department of State’s Partnership for Nuclear Security (PNS) will hold a Professional Development Course (PDC) on introduction to nuclear security and safeguards in Accra, Ghana, in 2015. The Course will consist of two workshop sessions and distance learning via the IAEA Learning Management System. It is intended for faculty members from universities and research institutions planning to launch educational courses in nuclear security, safeguards, or both.
A total of 15 participants will be selected. The nominees will be selected on the basis of their interest, teaching, and research experience relevant to nuclear security (such as nuclear engineering, security studies, nuclear safety, and non-proliferation, nuclear safeguards and political sciences) and their academic institution’s future plans to offer courses in this field. Places on the course will be offered free of charge and there is limited funding to support travel and accommodation costs. In your application, please indicate if you require such support.
