The African Center for Science and International Security (AFRICSIS) is the nongovernmental organization that is dedicated to research and training in the areas of nonproliferation and arms control as well as space and satellites in Africa. The Centre’s core nuclear area includes explorations into nuclear developments of nations, procurement networks, and surveying nonproliferation instruments including weapons proliferation, missile proliferation, nuclear security, and disarmament education. In the space front, the Centre aims to encourage security-related dialogue and the long-term discussion of measures on establishing basic capacities in space technology development.

Our integrated approach offers multifaceted perspectives on issues that leads to insight, revelation, and surprises that produce new understanding and thinking on issues. By introducing a new way of thinking about existing or emerging situations, we assist policymakers, the public, the news media, and the next generation of scientists, engineers, and African leaders to better understand seemingly obscure security issues.Located in Ghana, AFRICSIS offers a unique platform for researchers from different countries to work in close cooperation. To that end, the Center maintains contacts with other specialized institutions and individual researchers throughout the world. The Center also host guest researchers and interns who work on issues related to the AFRICSIS research programs.

AFRICSIS International Advisory Board comprises a highly skilled and dedicated team of physicists, engineers and policy experts who meet twice a year to review AFRICSIS programmes and activities. They share a vision for nuclear security, nonproliferation, arms control, and space security in Africa, a continent where many states show interest in nuclear energy and space technology development.

Our experts conduct scholarly and policy-relevant research, organize conferences and expert meetings, and runs regular seminar series where internal and external speakers address issues related to applied science and security. In addition, a significant emphasis is placed on engaging on AFRICSIS issues with security practitioners in governments and international organizations, and the wider dissemination of research findings through engagement with the media, and the wider dissemination of research findings through its publications and its website.
