Kudakwashe Z. Mapako is a Research Officer at AFRICSIS in the arms control and nonproliferation program in Yaounde, Cameroon since October 2021. Parallel to his role at AFRICSIS, Mr. Mapako is a legal researcher at the Canadian Institute for International Law Expertise (CIFILE)where he contributes to the institute’s work on, inter alia, transitional developments in public international law and international humanitarian law. CIFILE is an independent, non-political and private institute, working with groups of international lawyers and scientific experts across the globe to promote the implementation of nationals and international law.
Prior to joining AFRICSIS, Mr. Mapako interned remotely at Anglo Thai Legal, an innovative and modern international law firm in Bangkok, Thailand between July and August 2019. His work spanned a variety of subject areas including corporate and commercial, regulatory and compliance and dispute resolution. Importantly, he attended and presented at international conferences including as a delegate in the UNDP Workshop on theThe Future of Leadership is Gender Equal on 29-30 August 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand as well as a mock lead counsel in the 13th Red Cross Moot Court Competition in Xian Mainland, China from 22-24 November 2019. Significantly, the Canadian Institute for International Law Expertise journal has published some of Mapako’s articles in the field of international humanitarian law including his recent publication, Mozambique Armed Conflict: A Semi-Active Volcano in Southern Part of Africa.
Mr. Mapako holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) with a Major in International Law from Zhejiang Gongshang University since 2020.
