Eleanor Afful is a researcher at AFRICSIS and a versatile Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and profession engineer with twelve years of multidisciplinary experience in the private and public sectors. Eleanor is passionate about connectivity and its security-related issues. Her exposure to Nuclear Security in Germany and Computer Networks in USA with the Cisco Networking Academy motivated her to pursue Cybersecurity-related research. Her significant time spent working in various ICT roles in training, consulting and researching ICT technologies, as well as in project related fields also contribute to her research ambitions.
In her current role as a lecturer and research fellow at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Eleanor provides training in data communication and computer networks, software engineering, information security and system audits. Additionally, she supervises student’s projects and research on the Impact of Internet of Things (IoT) and virtual team management.
Prior to her teaching roles, she was the Cisco Network Academy Representative in Ghana with the Ghana India Kofi-Annan Centre of Excellence. In this role she provided ICT mentoring and counseled participants in Cisco Networking programs; she also coordinated Cisco programs in the regions of Ghana. Eleanor has also worked as consultant in supervising a Ghana High Authority wide area network (WAN) project during installation and deployment. Additionally, she led a team that assessed the LAN project for auditing and recommendation for the Ministry of Finance (MOFEP).
Eleanor is a very experienced network trainer in design, implementation and support services using Cisco Equipment. She receiver her M.S. in ICT from Aalborg University in Denmark in 2010 and her B.S. in Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Ghana in 1998. She also earned her Instructor Certification in Cisco network associate programs in 2012 and the title of IBM Big data Specialist in 2015.
She is a member of: Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI)-Ghana Data & Research Working Group and Gender, IEEE , ACM, ISOC, AFRINIC and a proctor in NetRiders Competition with Cisco.
