Dickson Achuo Enah is a research assistant in the nonproliferation and disarmament program of AFRICSIS in Yaounde, Cameroon. He is currently a Ph.D. research student in Animal Biology and Physiology at the University of Yaounde I. In the university’s Hydrobiology and Environment Laboratory, his research analyzes physical, biological and chemical processes of environmental systems, with an emphasis on the aquatic environment.

Dickson contributed significantly to a study on Lake Nyos where a poisonous gas caused the deaths of at least 1700 people in the northwest area of Cameroon in 1986. Nearly thirty years later, through the 2014 Study led by Pr. NOLA Moïse, Dickson highlighted results that could potentially determine whether the lake’s surrounding area is safe for community rehabilitation. Prior to the 2014 Lake Nyos study, he conducted a similar investigation on the sources, types and the effects of human pollution on unprotected city waters.

Dickson is passionate about training the next generation of Cameroon scientists. He lectures part-time on selected topics in chemistry and biology to secondary and high school students. Since March 2010, he has taught modules in animal and plant physiology, cytology, histology, taxonomy and ecology at Government high school Emana in Yaounde. Similarly, he has lectured on the aspects of waste and water treatment, as well as diseases and hygiene as part of human physiology at Quality International School in Yaounde since 2014.

He received his M.S. in Aquatic Entomology from the University of Yaounde I in January 2015.
